The Parish Council has been delighted to welcome 3 new councillors in the past 9 months which takes us to 7 members. However, we still have vacancies for councillors so, if you think you might be interested, we’d encourage you to contact us to find out more about this hands-on and rewarding role.
As the lowest tier of local government, parish councils are closest to their communities and have an essential role in local democracy. The Council is responsible for delivering critical local services such as providing and maintaining the play areas, sports fields, the defibrillator network, bus shelters and planted areas in the village. Meeting once a month (except for August) at Stocksfield Community Centre, councillors oversee the budget and influence many issues and proposals that affect the village such as traffic issues and planning applications. The role can be very varied and councillors are encouraged to get involved with areas of work that hold particular interest for them, be it sports, play areas, footpaths or one of the many other areas covered by the parish council.
